The students from Year 8 through to Year 12 along with staff, parents and community members will spend 10 days in a village near Hoi-An as well as participating in a number of cultural and historical tours in Hoi-An, Danang, Hue and Hanoi.  

The group will be tasked with a construction project, with Hearts for Hue at a nearby rural school kindergarten, where they will fundraise to purchase building materials for the project.  

Narromine High School Careers Adviser and organiser Jan Davison said the trip will be an amazing experience for the students to develop their cultural understanding. 

“This trip will be offering an exciting and unique opportunity for students to experience a new culture and way of life,” Ms Davison said. 

“Students will help change people’s lives for the better through community work, develop knowledge and sensitivity of other cultures and meet and work with people who are less fortunate than themselves,” she said.

Ms Davison said the trip has been organised in conjunction with travel counsellor Jacy Richards and Wide Eyed Pupils. 

To help purchase building materials for the community project the school will be hosting a number of fundraising activities this term and next year. 

“Students will be completing a construction project that requires building materials costing approximately $3000,” Ms Davison said. 

“We will be organising many fundraising activities this term and next year,” she said.  

Ms Davison said the first fundraiser is preparing the students for the project, creating wooden Christmas trees from pallets and recycled timber, which will be on sale in Narromine soon. 

“Our first fundraiser provides students with some practice in construction and team work,” Ms Davison said.

The group will also be holding a Bunning’s barbeque on November 18. 

“Come along and buy a sausage sandwich,” Ms Davison said.
