About 3.40pm on November 8 police were called to Burroway Street after reports of a teenager handling a gun.
The pistol was a toy cap gun, however modified to look like a real firearm.
The youth was arrested and taken to Narromine police station and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Police are reminding parents and guardians if people are in possession of toy guns, not to modify these in any way.
“As soon as people take off the orange cap [on these toy guns] they are no longer classed as toys and under the Firearms Legislation can be deemed a firearm,” Narromine Police Sergeant Michael Smith said.
Police are also reminding people this is a public safety concern as they do look realistic and can be easily be mistaken by police and members of the public as being a real firearm.
