Orana Mid-Western Police are appealing for information in relation to ongoing fuel thefts in the Narromine region.
Narromine police have reported almost 3000 litres of petrol have been siphoned from work sites and properties in the last week.
It was reported that thefts have been from a number of work plants where vehicles and machinery are being stored including the Narromine Shire Council work site, near Warren and at a property near Cathundral where it is alleged almost 1400 litres was stolen.
Narromine Police Sergeant Michel Smith said he doesn’t think this is an amateur operation and is encouraging members of the public to remain extremely vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“Police are investigating and we’ve had a number of vehicles forensically examined after the thefts,” Sergeant Smith said.
“These offences are happening at night time so we ask people to keep a look out for suspicious activity and any vehicles with large fuel tanks or storage tanks.”
“We will follow up on any leads we do get to solve these thefts.”
“My advice to people who are parking vehicles outdoor overnight, particularly large vehicles or machinery, to be extra vigilant and consider parking vehicles in a less isolated place,” he said.
Anyone who has any information or witnesses suspicious vehicles in the area are encouraged to contact the Narromine Police Station of 6889 1444 or report information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
