Almost 1500 presents donated to the Sydney Santa Spectacular’s charity tree at Rose Hill Gardens were gifted to students from Narromine Public and St Augustine’s on Wednesday.
Santa Spectacular founder Jade Evans said the day has been “just magical” and the group decided to donate the presents to Narromine to help ease the pressure on farmers as a result of the drought.
“We get thousands attend our Santa Spectacular Australia’s largest extravaganza, just from the kindness of the patrons who attend,” Mrs Evans said.
“Our family have been big supporters of the Narromine community for many years, and we decided to come out here and help.”
“We figure there were a few families that could do with a bit of extra Christmas cheer, after a bit of a tough time.”
Mrs Evans said after seeing places such as America and London host winter wonderlands, her family began the Santa Spectacular to bring people together to enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
Story continues after video:
“I have six children and they’re all out there handing out the gifts and being apart of the whole thing,” Mrs Evans said.
“Our whole life is about family and creating a magical memories, but I suppose now we’re creating magical memories here today as well,” she said.
The event was bought together with the help of the Royal Far West who partner with the Public School through their Telecare program, which provides children in remote regions with health services such as pathology, occupational therapy and psychology via video link.
Narromine Public School Principal Denise Kind said the day had the children “jumping out of their skin with excitement” and is grateful to the Santa Spectacular and Royal Far West for organising the event.
“There are families are doing it tough, the community’s doing it tough, but there’s a lot of love, friendship and support out there for people who are doing it tough, and these guys from Santa’s Spectacular at Rose Hill Gardens have just epitomised that,” Ms King said.
“It’s just wonderful.”
Mr Claus who visited from the North Pole, was excited to be in Narromine and wanted to do something special for the bush kids.
“This is something that’s very special and dear to our hearts and that’s why we do it, to give,” Mr Claus said.
“This one was an early special delivery to Narromine just for the kids.”
“But it’s time to get back onto the tools, there’s still a lot of work to go yet, and then we’ve got one big night ahead.”
Mrs Evans thanked everyone who donated presents, the Royal Far West and school for their help with the event, and said without their support the event wouldn’t be possible.
“They say it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to create some magic,” Mrs Evans said.
Mrs Evans said gifts left over from the visit will be left with the Narromine Shire Council and delivered to other charities within the shire.
