The Narromine Agricultural Show Society is on the look out for its 2019 Showgirl.

The Showgirl movement in NSW provides an opportunity for young women to become involved in their local communities as rural ambassadors and encourages friendships, personal growth and development and services to the Narromine community.

“We really focus on fostering the friendships formed by the competition, and really, it isn't so much of a competition, but more of a fun experience that allows us to showcase the amazing young women that we have in our community,” Showgirl Coordinator Sarah Weir said.

“We are looking for young ladies who are wanting to represent our Narromine community, to get outside of their comfort zone and who are wanting to meet other like minded and driven young women.”

The 2018 Narromine Showgirl, Keiley O'Brien will represent Narromine at the Zone 6 Final of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition on February 16 in Young.

“Zone 6 is the largest of the NSW Zone finals and Keiley will be up against Showgirls from 39 other Show Societies,” Ms Weir said.

“There will be three finalists chosen on the night, and we believe Keiley is in with a really great chance.”

Ms O’Brien had the opportunity to meet some of the other Zone entrants when she attended the deportment weekend in Dubbo, held on February 2 and 3, hosted by the Dubbo Show Society.

“The deportment weekend is such a great resource for our Showgirls. It gives them the opportunity to network and engage in discussions regarding issues that affect all of our rural communities,” Ms Weir said.

“Not only that, it also gives the Showgirls hints and tips on public speaking, interviewing skills, deportment, and helps the girls understand the judging criteria so they can be confident in their zone interviews.”

The Narromine Showgirl Competition is open to young ladies between the age of 18 and 24 years.

The annual Narromine Show Ball will be held on Saturday, July 27.
