Member for Dubbo Troy Grant and Minister for the Arts Don Harwin announced that the electorate will receive funding through the annual Aboriginal Regional Arts Fund from the NSW Government.

With the funding, Orana Arts will bring Aboriginal theatre to communities for the first time. The funding will deliver the performance of A Little Piece Of Heaven, written and performed by Wiradjuri elders Aunt Ruth Carney and Uncle Dick Carney.

The project is one of seven selected in 2018/19 to share funding of over $120,000, with projects spanning visual arts, theatre, circus skills, music and dance amongst others.

“This funding will help us celebrate our local Aboriginal heritage. I’m delighted that our community will be supported through this fund and I’m excited to see the outcomes of Orana Arts’ upcoming project,” Mr Grant said

Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said that the Aboriginal Regional Arts Fund (ARAF) projects will engage and promote Aboriginal artists, arts and culture and offer communities and audiences lasting legacies.

“This funding is set to see Aboriginal culture and identity celebrated in many exciting ways in the coming year,” he said.

“I am delighted to see the level of creativity put forward in each of the supported projects and excited about the ongoing development opportunities they will deliver, not to mention the diverse experiences that audiences are set to discover.”

The Aboriginal Regional Arts Fund (ARAF) supports arts projects that celebrate and promote Aboriginal cultural identities in regional NSW.

Annual funding of up to $5,000 is available for individual professional artists, and $20,000 for organisations, partnerships and groups.
