Organised by the Trangie Action Group the day is open for all kids to come make and decorate their kites, then fly them around the Alan Burns Oval. At the end of the day, kids can then take home their kites to continue practising their flying skills.
Treasurer of the Trangie Action Group Andrew Cayzer said the group decided to organise kite flying as it was a pastime each member enjoyed.
"We decided that when we were all kids kite flying was a big thing, and some of these kids may have never flown a kite," he said.

"We decided we've got this big beautiful million dollar football ground in Trangie now, nice and green, no power lines, no trees close by, so we bought 70 kites and the kids can colour them, get to fly them and then get to keep them."
Mr Cayzer said the Trangie Action Group was formed to benefit the community, and provide activities for the town's youth.
"One of the founding reasons for the Trangie Action Group was to do things for the local community and the kids," the treasurer said.
"So we're really ramping that up more and more every year, doing more, and we get a little grant here and there and we put that money back into things.

"The Action Group are for the benefit for the town, we're building the murals, but we're also trying to put more and more things on for the kids, to get the kids involved.
"We had the fishing competition back in October which we've had for three years, it's a very successful catch and release day."
He said money left over from that event, was used to organise the free kite flying day for the children.
"There's always plenty going on here, and the community are very thankful for it as well and appreciative," he said.
Mr Cayzer is encouraging the community to come along and be a kid for the day on Sunday, May 19 at Alan Burns Oval from 1pm.
