Mr Paull was initially running as a candidate for The Greens but after a post on Facebook on a Port Arthur conspiracy page he stood down from the party.
However, he will remain as a candidate.
"Technically now I am an independent candidate for Parkes, even though I may still have a Greens designation on the voting form," Mr Paull said on Facebook.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
The post said Mr Paull did not believe Martin Bryant was responsible for the Port Arthur massacre, where 35 people died.
The candidate said there was an explanation for why he "may have said these things", but didn't give it.
"I really don't think the tragedies of the past need rehashing like this in the public view and it must grieve families and survivors of the tragedy to see it being discussed like some political football," Mr Paull said.
He warned people to be careful on Facebook and not play games, even if their intentions were good.
