Approximately after 9.30pm Friday evening 23 trees were found snapped and broken beyond repair, along the southern end of Dandaloo Street in Narromine.

The Narromine Shire Council are offering a $500 reward for anyone who has any information about the incident.

The council's general manager Jane Redden said they were "extremely disappointed" and were supporting the police by offering a $500 reward for anyone who may have information about the incident.

"We're just really disappointed after the work we've done and are continuing to do," she said.

"We don't want to change our beautification works. Our whole beautification strategy is to improve the main street, and we shouldn't have to stop because of this behaviour."

The avenue of manchurian pear trees were planted last year to replace the kurrajong trees which were destroying the bitumen, and causing grief for residents on the southern side of the railway line.

Narromine Police Sergeant Michael Smith said investigations were underway to uncover those responsible for this "senseless act".

"This is a senseless act of vandalism, which sadly the ratepayers of Narromine Shire will have to pay to have replaced," he said.

"The trees are an important part of the local streetscape and it is both disappointing and disrespectful to the town, to think that people would want to cause this kind of damage."

He said penalties of up to five years imprisonment apply to those convicted of damaging property.

Police are asking for anyone with information, especially home or business CCTV footage that may have captured the incident, to contact either Narromine Police Station on 6889 1444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can always be given anonymously and will be treated with strict confidence.
