About 9.30am on Saturday police allege the man was at a Murgah Street address when he assaulted an 18-year-old woman several times before threatening to kill her.

It is believed the suspect held a knife to the woman's throat before using a knife to stab several pillows.

The accused ran from the premises before being confronted by two males who had heard the noise from inside the house.

It is alleged the accused then returned to the house and armed himself with a carving knife before threatening to harm the two males.

Police shortly after sighted the man in Murgah Street, where he ran from police.

Following a struggle, police were forced to use capsicum spray during the arrest. Police allege that the accused also spat in the face of the male officer and made threats to another officer and his family.

It is believed that the accused made a further attempt to escape, before being brought under control and conveyed to Dubbo Base Hospital for decontamination and a mental health assessment.

The accused was released from hospital and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with three counts of armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, three counts of intimidation, three counts of common assault, two counts of contravene apprehended domestic violence order, damage to property, escape police custody and harass/intimidate a police officer.

The accused was refused bail and will appear in Dubbo Local Court on June 17.

"These are very serious domestic violence allegations, and thankfully nobody involved in this incident was seriously harmed," Orana Mid-Western Police District Acting Inspector Michael Smith said.

"Any form of violence, assaults or threats made against any police officer or emergency services worker will not be tolerated, and we will not hesitate to charge those who engage in that behaviour."
