NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
This years' theme 'Voice, Treaty, Truth: Let's work together for a shared future' focuses on Indigenous Australians' voice and encourages people from all backgrounds to come together and work towards a shared future.
CEO of the Narromine Local Aboriginal Lands Council (LALC) Shelly Bayliss said this year the schools will be taking part each offering a number of activities and open days.
Monday, July 1
- 1pm: Community day at Dundas Oval including activities, performances, stalls, live music and a guest speech by tent embassy founder Michael Anderson.
- 4.30pm: Movie under the stars featuring the Sapphires.
Tuesday, July 2
- 8.30am: Narromine Public School breakfast.
- 9am: showcase at Narromine Public School and morning tea with students.
- 12.30pm: Narromine High School assembly.
- 12.45pm: Barbecue lunch at Narromine High.
- 1.30pm: Sports afternoon hosted by Clontarf and the Girls Academy
Wednesday, July 3
- 10am-1pm: Narromine preschool open day featuring a barbecue, cake, activities and visiting performers.
- 10am: St Augustine's Liturgy, smoking ceremony and big morning tea.
Thursday, July 4
- 11am-1pm: Narromine Christian School open day including a mural dancing and activities
Friday, July 5
- 6pm: Narromine LALC NAIDOC Dinner
Ms Bayliss is encouraging members of the community to get involved and take part in the NAIDOC week celebrations and get in quick to buy tickets to the LALC NAIDOC dinner.
"I'd encourage the community to come along to celebrate NAIDOC and us as a community," she said.
The NAIDOC dinner at the USMC will feature a two course meal, awards presentation, Koori quiz, auction, performances by the Narormine LALC dance group, guest speaker Sally Riley and MC by Rowdy Waldon.
"I don't want to give too much away but there's lots of tradition, including the archway which will be covered in gum leaves and there will be a smoke machine to make it feel like a mini smoking," Ms Bayliss said.
"The dance group boys are having a painting workshop on the Sunday to paint the table runners, which will be auctioned on the night."
"We've got a lot of support from the schools, but we want as much of the community to come as possible."
Tickets are $25 and available from the Narromine LALC. For catering purposes tickets must be purchased by June 28.
