President of the Narromine Rotary Club Nesto Falcioni said it's been a hard decision, but one that has been thought about for the past 12 months.

"The markets have been going downhill for a couple of years now," he said.

"We decided to give it another go at the end of last year, but they just haven't improved."

Mr Falcioni said there were a number of reasons for the closure of the markets including the lack of stall holders available, the current economic situation due to drought and competition from neighbouring towns such as Dubbo.

While the president said the decision was "sad" for the group, he believed the overall decline was a "sign of the times".

"I think the bottom line is the markets in general have been saturated beyond what can be supported, and considering the general condition at the moment that people have no money because of the drought," Mr Falcioni said.

"We don't like doing it but there's no point turning up there and virtually looking at one another because there's no support for [the stallholders] anymore."

The Rotary markets were started by Mission Australia and initially held at Tom Perry Park, however Mr Falcioni said eventually they became too big for the site and moved to Dundas Park.

Narromine Rotary will be hosting their last three market days in Dundas Park on the last Sunday of September (29), October (27) and November (24) from 8am until 12pm.
