NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) research and development agronomist, Leigh Jenkins, said it was an opportunity to see how field trails are performing and get the latest insights into crop management, applied farming systems, new crop varieties and pest and disease management.
"In the face of ongoing drought conditions, researchers have this year watered crops to mimic the region's average rainfall," Ms Jenkins said.
"This ensures our research investment continue to produce valuable data and our researchers are able to deliver results which better informs farmers."
The field day will focus on farming system trials on red soils, crop disease management, wheat and cereal crop trials and canola phenology,
It will also focus on time of sowing, new varieties and harvest management, pulse agronomy and a new chickpea variety due for release in 2020.
The event is in partnership with the Grains Research and Development Corporation, with NSW DPI researchers delivering the information.
NSW DPI researchers will include Greg Brooke who will be discussing wheat phenology, plus Kathi Hertel who will touch on farming systems research results.
Leigh Jenkins will discuss canola, chickpea, lentil phenology, Don McCaffery will look at new canola varieties and Rick Graham will discuss canola harvest timing.
Dr Kevin Moore will highlight chickpea disease management, Peter Matthews will discuss new wheat varieties and Dr Steven Simpfendorfer will look at cereal disease management.
The GRDC is a global leader in grains industry research and development.
The NSW DPI is responsible for the administration and development for agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, and biosecurity in New South Wales.
