Summer Reading Club will run from December 1, 2019 until January 31, 2020. Students can join the challenge at Dubbo Library to receive a free Summer Reading Club kit, and lots of bonuses for reading books and listening to stories.
Participants will receive a book prize when they complete their first reading log, and all completed logs will go into the draw to win a major prize.
Foods for fines!
Overdue fines will be wiped with no questions asked when overdue items are returned to any branch of Macquarie Regional Library from Monday, November 18 to Sunday, December 15.
Simply donate an item of non-perishable food and the library will clear any overdue fines on your returned items. No questions asked. This year you can also donate toiletries and other essentials including new socks and underwear.
This is a fantastic opportunity to return that book, magazine, audiobook, CD or DVD that is still sitting at home - even if it has been years! All items received will be donated to local charity organisations throughout the region.
The month-long amnesty will help people come back to the library to borrow resources, while also assisting people in need. Donations will also be accepted from people who would simply like to give to a good cause.
Who Writes Like?
On this day in 1870, the world lost the French author Alexandre Dumas, famous for writing classics such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers and Man in the Iron Mask. If you love adventure stories, possibly with a swashbuckling hero, why not try these authors: Rafael Sabatini, Jules Verne, Victor Hugo and Pierre Pevel.
