According to the Narromine captain, being a member of the RFS isn't just fighting fires with a number of roles available for men and women with different abilities, from communications and administration to even being a support crew.
"There's a lot of things that can be done within the brigade," captain Peters said.
"It's not just jumping on a truck and going to fight a fire, there's a lot of stuff in the background, so if you're not suited for the firefighting, there's other jobs you can do.
"There's a support brigade too, so if were out fighting a fire for a couple of hours, they will bring out food and drinks for us or they'll shuttle trucks around for us."
Captain Peters has been a volunteer with the service for 25 years and said the comradery and satisfaction of helping the local community were two of the most rewarding experiences of the job.
"It's a great organisation and you meet a lot of great people through it. I've got friends going back years, from Sydney and Canberra fires, it's a good thing," he said.
"It's community orientated and gives you a lot of satisfaction at the end of the day."
The crew at Narromine urge anyone 18-years and over to contact them to discuss membership. They are particularly interested in truck drivers.
Training starts with basic firefighter courses and volunteers can progress to take up speciality courses such as aviation, first aid, driver training and chainsaw courses.
Volunteers are provided with a range of protective clothing, and transport and all costs associated with training are covered by the RFS.
All applicants must complete a police check and your level of fitness will be matched with roles available.
