The Tasmanian may have become the oldest living person in the state today as she celebrates her 109th birthday during her second pandemic.
She was born in 1911 in Launceston into a family with five siblings, before she witnessed two World Wars, the Great Depression and the 1929 Tasmanian floods to name a few things.
She married Alf Duncan in 1928, but sadly he passed away about 40 years ago.
Mrs Duncan is normally surrounded by family for her birthday but this year was a little quieter due to the coronavirus.
One of her 11 children hosted a birthday lunch for an allowed five-people at her Mowbray home as her mother's cake had already been ordered.
The birthday girl had her hair permed for her birthday and her daughter Joy Fitch said her mother still loved to be pampered, even at 109.
"She loves life and her garden, she loves to get out in the garden. It's her veggies that have kept her going all these years," Mrs Fitch said.
"She still talks about the young days when she used to dance... she was taught ballet.
"She loves to go shopping and loves to spend money.
"She also loved to write poems."
She said her mother had lived in the same house at Mayfield for about 60 years before she moved into Aldersgate Village at Newnham in 2018.
Mrs Fitch used to visit her mother twice a week at the aged care facility but has only been able to see her once in the last eight weeks due to restrictions.
"She was a good mother, she was strict," she said.
"She loves champagne but she likes it broke down with lemonade and I'm the only one who can mix it for her."
Although she is hard of hearing she still has her wits about her and is still charming the staff at Newnham's Uniting Age Well facility.
She told The Examiner for her 107 and 105 birthday that the secret to a long life was happiness.
The Australian Electoral Commission and the Births, Deaths and Marriages office were contacted to confirm if she was the oldest living person in Tasmania but neither could disclose that information.
