Renee Reynolds officially joined station 401 on Monday, and becomes the 120^th member of the Narromine brigade.

Station commander, captain Ewen Jones said the station were "lucky" to have such a diverse crew, and welcomed their latest female member.

"She's very keen, very dedicated and interested," he said.

"I was there for her interview and one thing she emphasised was she wanted to give back to the community, and that's what its all about."

"Renee doesn't just sit back, but she's always wanting to know what's going on and observes from a safe distance ... she's always watching and asking questions, which is how you learn you don't learn just sitting around."

Ms Reynolds is the fifth female member of the station, which has been serving the community for over 90 years.

Pauline Henry was the first female to join the brigade serving from 1994 until 1996, this was followed by the late Kerry Glasson (nee Thompson) who served from 1998 until 2010, Belinda Roach from 2013 until 2016 and Citrine Fraser from 2018 to 2020.

Captain Jones said Fire and Rescue NSW were an equal opportunity employer and they were lucky enough to have Indigenous members as well as two other firefighters from the Philippines and Samoa as part of Narromine station 401.

"Fire and Rescue NSW prefer diversity and be an equal opportunity employer, and Narromine as far as a retained station is concerned is probably leading the way," captain Jones said.

"Recruitment used to take forever. It's now quicker and easier and the fire brigade now has a recruitment officer, Trangie FRNSW captain Wade Haines," he said.
