A return to the good old days is on the cards for the community of Mungery, following news that the town's recreation reserve will receive some vital upgrades.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders announced on Tuesday that $160,501 of funding has been secured through the Crown Reserve Improvement Fund, with the money to be spent on the construction of a multipurpose tennis court adjacent to the local hall.
Mr Saunders said the funding would provide a boost to a community that has had to battle through drought and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"People in the Mungery community have had plenty thrown at them in recent years, so it is great that some vital recreation facilities will be made possible thanks to this funding," he said.
"Being a multipurpose court it will service other sports apart from tennis and it will provide an outlet for people in the region."
Mungery Recreation reserve land manager Andrew McIntyre said the funding would be a welcome boost for the community.
"We would never have been able to do something like this by ourselves, so it's great that Dugald has been able to secure the funding for this project," he said.
"Many years ago Mungery, like a lot of small communities, survived off the back of people coming together for tennis during the day and an event at the hall at night.
"Our numbers have dwindled since then but the spirit is still there and it's important that we provide facilities for people who live on the land, whether they be locals or people who are new to the area."
