The first major collection of works by celebrated, boundary-pushing designer Alexander McQueen to go on display in Australia will open in Melbourne in December.

In 'Alexander McQueen: Mind Mythos, Muse' the National Gallery of Victoria will showcase 60 garments and accessories by the late designer from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and another nearly 50 designs from the NGV's collection.
Among them will be pieces from McQueen's earliest and most acclaimed and controversial collections, including autumn-winter 1995-1996's Highland Rape, which drew inspiration from his heritage and Scottish history.
His final complete collection, spring-summer 2010's Plato's Atlantis, is also featured.
McQueen's work will go on show alongside 70 historical artworks from LACMA and the NGV, including paintings, sculptures and photography, that form reference points for influences of his designs.
The exhibition will explore the designer's career across four themes - mythos, fashion narratives, evolution and existence, technique and innovation, and dangerous bodies.
Starting as an apprentice tailor on London's Savile Row, McQueen went on to become one of the most critically-acclaimed designers of the late 20th Century.
His works were a masterful mix of technical virtuosity, visual conceptualisation and innovation.
He died aged 40 in 2010.
Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse will be on display from December 11 to April 16 at the NGV International on St Kilda Road.
