Veterans’ championships plus Northcott Spoon were contested by a big field of 27 players.
Veteran champion, Northcott Spoon and B grade winner was Joan Collins with a massive 61 nett. Joan had two birdies, two gobblers, (one from a huge distance on fairway 11) and 17th nearest pin. Joan claimed that a little angel was sitting on her shoulder that day and he was not for loan. Gail White was veteran champion runner-up with 64 nett.
You had to play extremely well that day to win a ball.
A grade winner was Jan Brennan 65 nett; C grade winner was Pam Hamilton 67 nett coming in with her best game ever.
Optional ball winners: 1 Gail White 64 nett; 2 Tracy McIntyre 67 nett; 3 Terese Haley 67 nett; 4 Valerie Edmunds 67 nett; 5 Wendy Jeffery 68 nett. Jenny Fitzgerald won nearest pin on the ninth.
Drawn card was won by a very grateful Bev Woods who didn’t play her best game, because Joan Collins wouldn’t lend her angel.
The raffle was kindly donated by Gail White and won by Nikki McCutcheon.
Saturday was a perfect spring afternoon that saw 18 players contest the stroke scratch and handicap event with the Bev Woods Trophy; Bev also kindly donated nearest pins and the raffle.
Trophy winner and B grade handicap was Gail White 64 nett.
A grade scratch winner was the very skilful Tracy McIntyre 87sch and 66 nett, (promising to dismantle everyone’s handicap below 69 nett). A grade handicap winner was Jenny Fitzgerald 66 nett 88sch. (There is not a lot of Jenny and wow can she hit a ball).
B grade scratch winner was Pat Mitchell 94 (Pat’s break away to WA has more than sustained her golfing prowess) winning on a count back from Bev Woods 94 sch. who also won Optional Ball 1 and nearest pin ninth and 17th.
Remaining with ethics of not accepting her trophy Bev kindly surrendered her nearest pin trophies to two drawn cards, never guessing that Pat Mitchell and Tracy McIntyre would win a drawn card each, and consequently both nearest pin trophies.
Optional ball 2 was Elaine Ashdown 68 nett and 3 Marie Bishop 68 nett.
The drawn card won by Kathie Williams who also had a splendid 88 scratch.
Bev Woods’ raffle was won by Joy Whiteman.
I am very pleased to inform you that Wendy Jeffery and Vicki Gainsford travelled to Albert for their Open Tournament. Vicki arrived home with yet another trophy winning 18-hole scratch runner-up with 82 whacks.
A mighty effort they have put in for our club.
Today’s event is the McLachlan Medal Play-Off and Joyce McCutcheon’s Trophy; an all-day event (bring a dish for lunch), this will be followed by a committee meeting.
Thought for the week: Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.
