Councillor Mathew Dickerson has been returned as Mayor of Dubbo for the next 12 months following an uncontested open vote by councillors at an extraordinary meeting on Monday.
A separate ballot saw councillor Ben Shields elected unopposed as the deputy mayor for the next year.
The chairperson for the council’s Planning and Development Committee, Works and Services Committee and Finance and Policy Committee will be elected at committee meetings on Monday evening.
“It’s a good sign of how united this group of councillors are. There was discussion before the election of potential challenges and that discussion is healthy in a democracy but ultimately, the decision was made by council as a group to maintain the status quo,”
- Mayor Matthew Dickerson

Mr Abbott has revealed Australians fighting with Islamic State terrorists would be among those targeted by Australian bombs when the full multinational air assault on the insurgents is launched in coming weeks.
NATIONAL: Iraq is a tangle of competing interests and the countries joining the fight are pulling the knot ever tighter. Tony Abbott calls this a "necessary coalition" to fight against Islamist extremists, but he may come to rue friends like these. Think on the complexities. Getting Turkey to back the Kurds, who aim to declare a fair chunk of Turkish territory as their homeland, will prove incredibly challenging in the months ahead.
