In February of this year, Max McIntyre almost lost his life after contracting bacterial meningitis.
Doctors initially gave the son of Dubbo couple Rob and Amy McIntyre just days to live. That prognosis stretched to weeks and now, almost nine months later, the 18-month old continues to fight.
Against all medical advice Max has survived but he has been left blind and with severe brain damage.
In order to give their only child the best possible quality of life, the McIntyres are exploring the possibility of heading overseas to either America or Canada to access treatment that currently isn't available in Australia.
To help them achieve this, the Dubbo community is working on two fundraisers, the first of which will be held this weekend.
Anytime Fitness will be hosting 'Raise A Sweat For Max', a 12-hour challenge where the aim is to have one of the gym's treadmills constantly in use from 7am to 7pm.
Fifteen-minute timeslots are available for a minimum $25 donation, with all money raised going directly to the McIntyre family, and to book a slot people can call Anytime Fitness on 6885 2448.
The second fundraiser will be 'Flip Out For Max' on Saturday, December 13, which coincides with the opening of the new Flip Out trampoline facility at the Dubbo Showground.
A total of 58 trampolines will be in use across the day, with the organisation donating their entire first-day's proceeds.
"We've been overwhelmed by the support we've received since Max first got sick," Rob McIntyre said.
"Right from the start we've had so many people willing to chip in and help us, and it's something we'll never forget.
"The two fundraisers that are being organised are both centred around having fun and being active, so even though it's been a rough few months they should put smiles on people's faces which will be nice."
The family has also started its own 'Yellow For Max' campaign, with yellow stickers of Max's footprint available from a number of outlets in and around Dubbo at a cost of $5 each.
The footprints have been plastered all around the world, with friends of the McIntyres taking them to places such as Germany, Spain, Iceland, America, Canada, China, New Zealand, Mexico and the list continues to grow.
