After acknowledging the traditional owners of the country, Ambassador for the day, Lindy Hou OAM spoke with enthusiasm of her delight in being allocated the role of Ambassador for Trangie's Australia Day festivities.
In her address to the large crowd assembled at the Bowling Club, Lindy dwelled only briefly on her own personal achievements, choosing instead to emphasise the potential we all have to achieve whatever goal we seek, regardless of any disability we may have.
Mayor, Bill McAnally, in announcing the Australia Day award winners, commented on the number of nominations received by council and the difficulty experienced in choosing recipients from so many worthy nominees.
Andreas Gordon was given a special award for service to the school community
Daniel Flannery was awarded Junior Citizen of the year
Olivia Hilder received the award for Junior Sportsperson
Alan Hilder and Keith Sanders were recognised for their dedication to the role of Community Transport Drivers
The Event of the Year was St John's School Centenary celebration.
The award for Citizen of the Year was presented to Mrs Janet McKinnon for her many years of dedicated service to a number of local organisations.
