Small yarding but solid market at sheep sale

Meat and Livestock Australia have reported "numbers remain hard to find at Narromine with a yarding of just 3550''.

There were two lines of young first-cross ewes yarded with a fair percentage of store lambs.

"There was a mainly plain offering of Merino ewes and just the one pen of ewes and lambs," the MLA said.

Although the numbers were down, the market was solid for the sale.

"The market was solid enough for the sheep that were yarded," the report read.

"Rising one-year-old first-cross ewes, January shorn, sold for $142 and $152/head. A single pen of 2015 drop first-cross ewes unshorn sold for $110/head.

"There was plenty of interest in the store lambs yarded following between 10mm and 35mm of overnight rain.

"The store lambs sold from $70 to $96 per head."

The MLA also reported two lines of young Merino ewes were sold for $50 and $68 per head.

The best of the Merino ewes sold for $94 per head and the balance of the joined up older ewes sold from $60 to $88.50 while unjoined ewes in store condition sold for $63 per head.

The highest first-cross lamb price was $96 with an average of $88.50.

There were 1104 lambs sold.

The highest price for the first-cross ewes was $152 and the average was $134.67 with 419 sold. The Merino ewes' top price was $94 with the average being $72 and 1870 sold.

Merino ewes and lambs went for $85 and 149 were sold.
