Mrs Carney was honoured by the anonymous nomination in the Award for Outstanding Aboriginal Leadership.
"I mightn't have been a winner but I am honoured to be nominated," she said.
"It was an anonymous nomination, I want to thank them."

Lynn Field won the award for Most Outstanding Aboriginal Leadership for her work with drug and alcohol rehabilitation in the region.
"I'm so honoured, especially being up against people like Ruth Carney who is so deserving, I didn't think I'd have a chance," she said.

Ms Field works with members of the Narromine and Warren communities.
The Women Out West Awards were held in Dubbo on Saturday night acknowledging women from the Orana, Central West and Far Western regions of NSW.
