Men's Shed left distraught after break-in

The not-for-profit community group was devastated to discover a large amount of property and the safe stolen between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Men's Shed secretary John Mutton said everyone was very upset on Tuesday morning when the shed was meant to open. 

"We couldn't open today (Tuesday), so we've lost $300 to $400 in sales, we've just had to clean up," he said. 

"Everyone's upset, there's a lot of distraught men around here." 

Mr Mutton said it seemed as if the robbers had assessed the shed before they broke into it. 

"Looks as if they were casing the place out, they knew where all the nuts and bolts were," he said. 

Narromine Mayor, Bill McAnally is disgusted the shed has been broken into.

"It's really bloody terrible. It's like breaking into your parent's house, breaking into that shed. These people have no respect," he said.

Cr McAnally said people didn't understand how much work the Men's Shed did for the local community. 

"They're a not-for-profit organisation, it's a great shed. They fill a big hole in the community. People don't realise the great work they do," he said. 

"And people think they have a right to break into it."

Mr Mutton said the club members were sad to see their safe stolen, as it contained documents of great sentimental value.

"There was no money in there, it's all records of our members, records of our AGMs, monthly meetings and historic paperwork," he said. 

The police attended the scene on Monday morning and reported the hefty amount of property stolen. An investigation is continuing and the police are calling on anyone with information to come forward.

In the meantime, the Men's Shed has decided to do what they can deter robbers in the future.

"We're going to be tightening our security," Mr Mutton said.

"And we'll be back open on Thursday."
