Lt. Mark Townsend, the Dubbo Corps Officer and Fundraising Coordinator Andrew Dunkley attended the Men's Shed on Thursday 16th June to accept the cheque.

Men's Shed President, John Lenehan said "We're always looking to give to good causes and the Salvation Army is near the top of our list."

"All the members agreed to giving this cheque to the Salvos and we're more than happy to do so," he explained.

Mark Townsend talked about the Salvation Army's work in the region and fielded questions on issues like family dysfunction and the scourge of illicit drugs in the region and discussed some of the programs the Salvos can offer.

It was agreed at the meeting that the $500 should be used for the Salvation Army Chaplaincy Service, a vital component of the Salvation Army's work in the west. Salvation Army Chaplains provide support to people in need and have been very active with local farmers in recent times due to drought. They provide for the physical and emotional needs of those going through tough times.

The Narromine Men's Shed has been operating now for seven years and boasts approximately 70 members.

Mr. Lenehan suggested that support for the Salvation Army would continue in future years.

He also explained  this donation continues their focus on providing community support.

The shop sells low priced goods and furniture every Tuesday and Thursday at 60/64 Dandaloo Street, Narromine.
