Would you like to see the swimming season extended?
Now is your chance to help purchase a solar cover for the pool by joining the fun, Run for a Cover on Sunday August, 7. Help us raise the $45000 to purchase the cover.
There will be something for everyone, with a two kilometre, five kilometre and 10 kilometre runs, gourmet burgers, sausage sizzle and activities for children.
Children under five are able to ride scooters.
Registration for this event is online at www.123tix.com.au^
The pool is a focal point of Narromine sporting life during the warmer months and is used by a wide variety of people including aqua-aerobics, swimming clubs, schools, learn to swim programs to name a few– but it has one major disadvantage – it is a “cold pool” and this shortens the season it can be used by months. We are hoping the solar cover will help extend the season by a month each side.
One of the team organising Run for a Cover, Holly Davies, said the War Memorial Pool has a long history of community support and she is hoping the town will once again enthusiastically support this event to further improve the pool.
“The original pool was built in 1931 and after an amazing community fundraising effort over several years, the present Narromine War Memorial Olympic Pool was opened in October 1963,” she said.
“We are hoping the Narromine community will once again show its support and really get behind Run for a Cover.”
Organisers are also seeking donations from the wider community, and these will be acknowledged on the day and recorded on a permanent sign within the pool grounds. Donors should contact Holly Davies on 0438 149 764.
A fantastic raffle is also on offer including first prize: two return flights from Dubbo to Newcastle flying Fly Pelican. Including One nights accommodation at the Crowne Plaza. (Kindly donated by Fly Pelican, Davies Family and Halbisch Family).
Second prize: Fitbit Wireless Wristband and Ipod Shuffle (Kindly donated by EMS Services and Darling Irrigation).
Third Prizes (Multiple draws): $50 Orana Mall Voucher, Narromine Olive Oil & Poppy Seed Dressing Packs, $30 Funky Trunks Voucher, Lindt Chocolate Basket, Reading Cinemas Voucher, DVD/Blueray Movie Package, $25 Sportsmans Warehouse Voucher.
