Firstly to the Rookies and what a great result for Narromine with Ben Clark winning the Singles event on Saturday then Aaron Clark & Sam Crook collecting the Rookie Pairs trophy on Sunday. This now sees these three intrepid gentlemen journey to Raymond Terrace in a fortnight for the State Finals Series. My personal thanks to Harry Gammon & the markers over the weekend for ensuring the smooth running of this event.
Saturday was also “FINO” Day, and this day was a huge success. With some dozen teams competing, it wasn’t surprising that when the final tally of the day’s results was tabulated that 1st through to 5th spot came down to just a few points. The Manildra team proved clear cut winners being the only undefeated side. To Frog and the boys well done, we at Narromine appreciate your continued support of not only this event. In second spot with 4 wins + 53 points were the local squad of Mark Hilder, Paul Hilder, John Woolfe, AKA “Hodgo” & Jay Stephenson. 3 other teams had 4 wins +52 points, just missing a podium spot by 1 point, just to emphasise how closely contested this event was. To David Finlayson thank you for your continued sponsorship of this popular event and may there be more of the same next season.
Social Bowls Thursday: Danny Carnevale & Rob Bateman were the day’s best performed team and thus collected all the chocolates on offer.
Our AGM was held Sunday morning and the board of management for 2016/2017 has virtually no changes and once again see [president Kevin Rider steering the ship. Senior vice president is John Edwards, secretary is Norman (Rick) Bohm and the directors are Danny Carnevale, Peter Cross, Harry Gannon, Mark Hilder & Robert French. The Ladies completed their Triples Championships last week and congratulations is extended to Helen Woolfe, Betty Purvis & Heather McIntyre on their fine win over Bev Shield, Janet Coote & Jan Buswell. Best of luck to our team playing in the Cameron Bowl at Trangie this week. Nominations for the consistency singles are now being called for, with all the info regarding playing times, dates etc attached to said nomination sheet on the Notice board, so best check it out if interested in playing in this event. Not sure where we are up to with Nominations for the Una Dalton shield being held in the next week or so, but again am assured the info regarding this event can also be found on the Notice board.
There are no championship matches scheduled for this coming long weekend. The next round of championship matches, the “B” Triples and or Consistency Singles, will be set down for play over the weekend of October 8 and 9.

LADIES
Once again it is to my displeasure I need to report that Veterans’ Championships September 21 were not played due to heavy rain. The Geriatrics were right on the button planning their game for Tuesday September 20. The Veterans’ Championships is now scheduled for Wednesday October 19.
Congratulations to our Captain Vicki Gainsford who has been appointed to the new position of Western Districts Representative for 2017.
Saturday September 24 allowed 18 players to complete Annie Harmer and Jeanette Redden’s 4BBB Trophy event on very heavy fairways covered in pretty yellow cape weed daisies making it very difficult to find your ball.
Trophy winners; Vicki Gainsford & Kerri Richardson 40 points, winning on a count back from a very disgruntled Gail White who’s partner Annie Harmer thought it was very rude to win her own Trophy they also had 40 points, playing a very intense game, winning 1st optional ball. 2nd opp ball went to Betty Berryman & Robyn Jones 37 pts. Drawn card won by Tracy McIntyre & Joan Collins. Nearest Pin Trophies were kindly donated by Horti Ladies 9th nearest pin won by Annie Harmer (who played a brilliant game) 17th won by Vicki Gainsford (who always plays a brilliant game!)
Raffle had been kindly donated by the late Nancy Elrington and won by Wendy Jeffery.
Today, September 28, had a very odious weather forecast; however should it not rain 6th round Monthly Medal will be played. Saturday 1st October (long weekend) Par event with Gail White’s kindly donated Trophy.
Wednesday October 5: A, B, and C grades Scratch Score with Nadia McCulloch’s kindly donated trophy. Saturday 8th October Par event with Walters Family kindly donated trophy.

GERRIES GOLF
Good field for weekly comp
Last week once again the Narromine Gerries played their weekly comp on Tuesday due to the forecast wet weather for Wednesday. A top field of 15 golfers lined up for the event played on the back nine.
Winner on the day was Bruce Mitchell with a great round of 26 points. Bruce no doubt carried on his fine form after winning the Veteran's State Championships 4 Ball event with Neil Ashdown the previous week. Runner up on the day was Malcolm Fraser with 23 points. Nearest the pin went to Vince Ferrari and Peter Haseler won the NAGA award on a count back from Mal Richardson. A pretty good day for the Gerries and the Club. The pool comp followed the presentation with only a small field this week. The opening game saw Chris Harding and Tiger Berryman advance to the final defeating Bob Fletcher and Bill Burke.Mal Richardson and Terry Willis ended Pom and Tiger's winning streak to become the weekly champs. Fletcher and Burke challenged the winners to another game only to lose through a great shot by Mal on the black ball.
This afternoon is our final Wednesday match for this season and it will be a 3 person ambrose competition if there are enough players in attendance. If not the competition will be a stableford on the front nine with the hit off at 2.30pm. The Gerries will start their summer competition on Saturday 1st October with the hit off at 9am. Keep these new dates in mind-See you on the tee this afternoon.
