A FIVE-wicket haul from Ben Orme helped Bathurst City to start the 2016-17 Bathurst District Cricket Association first grade competition in emphatic fashion with a win on Saturday.

St Pat’s Old Boys won the toss and elected to bat at The Scots School, but their stay at the crease only lasted 26.5 overs.
Orme snared a wicket with the final ball of his opening over and went on to claim 5-26 off eight overs. It set up an eight-wicket victory.
With Clint Moxon (3-8 off 6.5) and Trent Hemsworth (2-26 off six) continuing his good work, Pat’s struggled.
Their scorecard showed five ducks and at one stage they slipped from 3-23 to 7-23. Were it not for tailenders Kieran Lindsay (23 not out), Ben Parsons (23) and Matt Fearnley (17), Pat’s could have fallen for less than 50.
“Benny did all the damage up front, I think he got four of the first five wickets. Clint did the next job then Hemsy got a few as well before Clint finished off at the end,” City skipper Matt Willis said.
In reply Greg Adams (16) and Joey Coughlan (54 not out) got Redbacks’ chase off to a solid start.
Pat’s first grade debutant Parsons (1-17 off six) managed to dismiss Adams with the score on 38, but Orme (11) and Mark Day (five not out) helped Coughlan see their side home in the 19th over.
“I don’t think we ever thought that was too many runs for us,” Willis said. “Our openers went out to bat with the view that we have got time up our sleeves, so let’s take it. The first few overs were a bit slow, but the boys were getting used to the pitch.”
