GERRIES’ GOLF
ALCORN SCORES AN ACE
Feature of the Gerries golf on Sunday last was the hole-in-one scored by Dudley Alcorn.Great shot Dudley, sorry that Bruce Mitchell collected the jackpot last week and for your effort you collected only one golf ball. It is thought the Gerries should give you a special prize for your effort.
The Gerries comp was transferred to Sunday last week and a field of 20 turned up to play. Only 6 ladies turned up for their competition, may be too close to" Chrissy".
The winner was Bev Woods with 25 points with Joy Whiteman second on 23.Joy defeated Nikki McCutcheon on a count back. There was no winner of the NTP nor the NAGA trophy for the ladies.
Fourteen blokes turned up for the Men's comp where the winner was Malcolm Fraser on 25 points. Competition was pretty keen in the men's comp with three tying on 25 points where Brian Masling took second on a count back from Chris Harding.
As previously mentioned Dudley Alcorn won the NTP with a Hole in one.
Bob Culhane won the coveted NAGA prize with 15 points. In all a great day's golf enjoyed by all who attended.
The Pool Comp resumed after a fortnights break and saw a win to Chris Harding and Terry Willis who defeated Gus Smith and Ross King in the final. I'll bet this was a real grudge match.
Next week the Gerries comp is back to Saturday with a 9am hit off.
The girls off the front and the blokes off the back. The incentive this week is Christmas meats so don't miss this day.
Hope to see you all on the tee on Saturday morning.
RACING
Narromine Turf Club
The Western Racing Associations Awards Night was held in Dubbo on Saturday December 3 after a day of lawn bowls to raise money for The Jockeys Trust.
For the second year running, Narromine's Kylie Kennedy took out the WRA Horse of the Year with Shadow Force. Kylie talks fondly about Shadowforce “My best friend and I bought him in 2010 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for about $1200.
He will be going around at the Narromine Meeting 19th December in the 800m, Canberra jockey Kalina Bone, who will claim 4kg, will be riding Shadowforce, who is likely to start as one of the top weights” The current race record for Shadow Force is 10 wins from 46 starts with prize money of $174,620.
Kylie is a much loved trainer working from the Jack Walsh Stables at The Narromine Turf Club. Kylie currently has 15 horses in work and hoping for 4 to be running around at Narromine’s next meeting.
Seems no coincidence that in the 18 months that Libby Dennis has been Secretary of Narromine Turf Club, that the WRA awarded Narromine The TAB Club of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Narromine was also a winner in the Overall Race Club of the Year. Both awards recognise the TAB turnover for the meetings but also measures the clubs management and administration, as well as a significant community event/s for the town and region.
These awards are decided upon by an independent panel of three judges coming from outside the WRA.
Kylie, who knew Libby prior to her start at The Club said “Libbys father, Mike Williams, trained out of Dubbo so Libby has a really good understanding of the thoroughbred industry from all sides.
Narromine winning The Race Club of the Year and TAB Club of the Year are well deserved.
Libby does a great job, and is backed up by a fantastic committee”.
Narromine Business House Christmas Meeting – Monday December 19 - free entry - proudly sponsored by Dubbo Equine Hospital, Macquarie Clothing, Narromine Newsagency, Rabbit Trap Hotel, West’N’Owen Fuels, Dubbo Pet Medical Centre.
Warren and District Jockey Club
A bumper crowd is expected at Warren and District Jockey Club on Friday night when the track hosts its annual Christmas meeting under lights.
The six-race meeting received 73 nominations, with a host of Dubbo trainers putting forward chances.
One trainer to watch on the night will be Mudgee’s Cameron Crockett.
Crockett’s Iron Blue has been nominated to make the second start this preparation in the Benchmark 60 Handicap (1400m).
The seven-year-old enjoyed plenty of success last preparation, highlighted by a run in the $400,000 Country Championship final at Randwick, but his first start back this time out was a disappointing ninth at Mudgee.
Final fields are released today, December 14.
SHOOTING
A good roll up of fourteen shooters competed over 300 metres at the Narromine-Dubbo rifle range on Saturday November 26 under almost ideal conditions. A slight breeze was just enough to upset some shooters with the odd willy-willy thrown in for good measure.
At the end of the first stage, Rob McKay and visiting shooter, Brett McCauley, were on top after firing a “possible” 50/50 each in target rifle, while in F-class, Scott Monaghan held the lead with a 58/60.
In the second stage, McCauley went on to score another 50/50 and in F-class, Clive Simpson fired a 57/60 to Scott Monaghan’s 56/60 but Monaghan held a two point lead to win the F-class badge.
Rob McKay won the A-grade badge with an off-rifle score of 97/100. B-grade went to Rob Rainbow while Locky Simpson won the C-grade badge. The weekly handicap trophy was tied between Scott Monaghan and Norm Brown and Clive Simpson drilled the “pin-hole” in his first stage to win the jack-pot.
Individual scores were:
Lionel Morrish 47/51, F-class total 98/120; Rob McKay 50/47, off-rifle 97, handicap 2, total 99/100; Scott Monaghan 58/56, F-class total 114/120; Clive Simpson 54/57, F-class total 111/120; Locky Simpson 47/43, off-rifle 90, handicap 12, total 100; Norm Brown 48/49, off-rifle 97, handicap 4, total 100; Colin Walsh 33/45, F-class total 78/120; Alan Taylor 56/56, F-class total 112/120; Daniel Galea 49/48, F-class total 97/120; Rob Rainbow 44/39, off-rifle 83, handicap 7, total 90/100; Simon Etcell 47/51, F-class total 98/120; Aron Horder 43/45, F-class total 88/120; Graeme Patten 50/49, F-class total 99/120; Brett McCauley 50/50, off-rifle 100/100.
