GERRIES GOLF
COLD WEATHER INTERFERES PLAY
Last Wednesday the cold weather forced the postponement of the weekly Gerries golf competition.
Fortunately the Gerries had their annual golf trophy day scheduled for Saturday 22nd and this was highly successful, A total of 45 players turned up for the event which offered trophies for 4BBB competitions for ladies, men and mixed combinations. The weather was kind to all players and some good scores were recorded.
In the ladies section the winners were Marg Kelly and Gail White with 48 points from Robyn Jones and Wendy Jeffery on 45 points. The Mixed event went to Tony and Judy Barlow on 46 from Vince and Pedro Ferrari 43. In the men's division the winners were Ashley Bullock and Dudley Alcorn with 47 points on a countback from John Butcher and Bob Fletcher. In all a very pleasant afternoon’s golf with special thanks to the ladies who provided tasty treats for all players after golf. The Gerries also thank Club Captain Peter Treseder and the Golf Club staff for their help on the day.
This afternoon the Gerries will play a 4BBB stableford on the back nine with the hit off at the usual time of 2.30am. See you all on the tee.

BOWLS
Congratulations to Robbie Stanford our 2017 A-grade singles Champion. Robbie defeated Robert French 31/23 in what was an enthralling battle over some 34 ends. No doubt the turning point of this match was the little flurry of shots scored by the champion on ends 25 thru to 28, which saw Robbie go from leading just 19/17 to edge out to a handy 28/17 lead from which point he was able to maintain, despite a mini rally from Frenchy to get back to 23/28 but two ends later it was all over, after Robbie again rallied and won consecutive ends to ensure this championship was his. Well done to both players, the window tappers were plentiful, and certainly got their monies worth as well.
The B-grade singles will kick off this Saturday with 4 matches to be played commencing at 1.30pm. Game 1 features “Rabz” Macqueen up against Joey Mikulic, game 2 will see Geoff Anderson & Trent Jacobson do battle, game 3 sees Paul Hilder up against Ben Clark, with Brian Payne & Codey Anning set to clash in game 4. The following Players are required to mark a match on Saturday afternoon, namely Geoff Bohm, Mick Wright, Jimmy Daley & Legs Hartas.
Social Bowls this week saw smallish fields take to the green, which no doubt was probably due in some way to the “pleasant” weather conditions we have been experiencing of late, but never the less those who got out and about no doubt enjoyed the camaraderie at least. A full wrap of both days play went something like this: Thursday saw Noel Delboux, Bob Ashdown & Danny Carnevale defeat Don Gibson, Des Lincoln & Don Sullivan 20/13, scoring some 16 points along the way, whilst in the pairs game it was John Heterick & Terry McDonald who prevailed 28/13 over Clifton Harris & Peter Cross which resulted in the winners scoring some 14 points along the way. Thus come presentation time the Triples team of Noel, Bob & Danny atop the podium, whilst the jackpot was too hard to find this time around. Sunday morning a couple of pairs matches resulted in Bob Ashdown & Bill Wilkie defeating Peter Kelly & Lionel Ayoub 20/12, whilst in the other contest it was Trevor Mullins & Clifton Harris just getting over the line 12/09 against Arthur Williams & Legs Hartas.
The club house was rocking on Saturday night with a good crowd in attendance who certainly enjoyed the dulcet tones of Maurice and his karaoke, judging by some of the reports this scribe received Sunday. There will get a chance to do it all again in the upcoming months with the Club having live entertainment in conjunction with the Upcoming “GUB” Thorne Day on August 26, and also hopefully during our annual Triples Tournament in November and who knows we may something in between as well, so it might be wise to keep those dancing pumps as well as the vocal cords lubricated.
Speaking of “GUB” Thorne Day, the nomination sheet for this day is filling up fast with just 8 team spots left, so if you’re a mind to play in this event might be best to get your team sorted sooner rather later to avoid missing the boat so to speak. For the record this day is on Saturday 26th August, kicking off with breakfast around 7.30am, an official opening ceremony around 8.30am and then three games of Bowls, with a buffet luncheon squeezed in there somewhere as well, and all for $40.00 per player. With some great prize money to be won this day’s popularity will no doubt result in the house full sign being posted.
