As at 11am on Wednesday, Trudy Everingham was the newest elected councillor on the Narromine Shire.
Miss Everingham said she is excited about the future, but wasn’t too concerned who won the title.
“To me it didn’t matter who won, it is about the town moving forward, I’m still going to be doing what I have been doing [in the community] but in a different arena,” she said.
“I have no big plans yet, I just want to help the council move forward, that’s the main thing. The old days are gone.”
Miss Everingham is already a big fan of the current council’s motivations and movements.
“It’s already a better community to live in,” she said.
Mayor of Narromine Shire, Craig Davies, has welcomed Miss Everingham to council.
“A very sincere welcome to our newest councillor Trudy Everingham. She has won the ballet and can now move into the chamber and step into the very large shoes of Peter Drew,” he said.
“Trudy is well known and admired in the shire. She has a background in mental health and disability spheres and currently manages one of these operations in Dubbo.
“She’s a mum with a broad range of experience and was a massive help to myself and Cr Jablonski when we organised the last of the crime meetings.
“Her knowledge and dedication will prove to be a huge asset to this shire and I am thrilled to have her on board,” Mayor Davies concluded.
Former councillor Ruth Carney was defeated by a margin of 13.04 per cent.
She said she’s still a winner, despite the defeat.
“I want the community to know I’m a winner. I’m still planning on supporting my community. I’ve had my turn now I’ll be working to support the community and the council,” she said.
“I want the community to know I’m happy for Trudy.
“I am very pleased its another woman. I feel relieved it’s a woman. It is a woman’s world after all.”
Mayor Craig Davies said Mrs Carney will work hard for the community.
“I know that Ruth Carney will continue her tremendous work within the shire and I look forward to catching up with and working with her,” he said.
Returning officer Janet Steinbek said it was a good election.
“It’s been a really good experience and a pleasure to work with both candidates,” she said.
The by-election took place on August 19 after the sudden and tragic death of Cr Peter Drew in June.
