Captain of the brigade Ewen Jones said the electronic message board has been on the station wish list for many years.
“We made the decision to purchase the message board in April 2017. All 401 firefighters were involved in the decision making process,” he said.
“These decisions included what size, single or double sided and where to erect the message board.”
The brigade have ordered a full colour, double sided board with perspex covers for protection at a cost of $2,200.
On the day after the erection of the sign, the message read “total fire ban” on Saturday.
During visits earlier this year, the “Mudyigalang Ladies” asked if the Fire Station needed anything.
“I made mention of the [message board] and the idea of informing our community about fire safety and prevention messages will put on the message board,” Captain Jones said.
The Mudyigalang Ladies ran a raffle and donated $1400 towards the message board.
”Other Narromine Charity groups also made large donations to our Narromine Fire Brigade Social Club, including the Narromine USMC Dancing Ladies, and the Narromine Men’s Shed,” Captain Jones said.
“RFF Guy Marchant took care of the “Dial before you dig” enquiries, and RFF Marc Barton constructed the steel frame to carry the Message Board.”
On Friday, Duty Commander Inspector Steve Knight from the Dubbo Region West 1 Office attended 401 Station Narromine to officially switch on the new Message Board.
