Ricky Blewitt wins Mungery Picnic Races

Ricky Blewitt was successful in the Mungery Cup on Sunday.

At the Racing NSW Country Awards night in Sydney on Friday, Narromine-based Blewitt received the trophy for the premier jockey on the Picnic circuit in NSW for the 2016/2017 season.

Producing an outstanding ride at Mungery, Blewitt brought The Real McCoy ($7) from last position on the rails to win the cup by over a length from Butterfly Sky (Alan Barton,$8) with Streak On ( Samara Johnson, $4 ) holding on for third after setting the pace.

Dubbo trainer Connie Greig, who landed a winning double at her home track on Friday, was in the winner’s circle again,at Mungery when Ausbred Petal (Daniel Stanley, $4.60) led throughout to beat Raynes Park in the Don Barling Memorial Open Handicap (1000m).

At Friday’s award night, held at the Four Seasons hotel in Sydney, Blewitt was awarded the Country Approved Rider of the year. 

Country Apprentice Jockey was awarded to Jean van Overmeire, Country Jockey of the Year was awarded to Rachael Murray.

Country Trainer of the Year was awarded to Trevor Sutherland, Outstanding Achievement Award was given to the Crookwell and District Amateur Picnic Race Club, Community Race Club of the Year was awarded to Deepwater Jockey Club and Country TAB Race Club of the Year was awarded to Moruya Jockey Club. 

Country Horse of the year was awarded to The Monstar and the Simon Nivison Special Achievement Award was given to Peter Clancy.

Reg Paine was awarded a special achievement award at the NSW Racing Country Awards.
