Lana and Roger Borg to be Trangie's Australia Day ambassadors

Lana and Roger Borg, founders of Mama Lana’s Community Foundation (MLCF) that helps the underprivileged in Sydney’s West, will be the guests of honour at Trangie's Australia Day Celebrations.

First time Ambassadors for Australia Day, Lana and Roger Borg said they were honored to be given this opportunity to visit the Central West.

“We have never been to Trangie, so we are excited to see a part of Australia we would never have seen before,” Ms Borg said.

The husband and wife duo established MLCF, a not-for-profit organisation, in 2013, dedicated to helping homeless and underprivileged communities in the Penrith region.

The foundation offers hot meals six nights a week, supplies food and toiletry packs, as well as providing clothing, sleeping bags, swags and blankets to keep the homeless and underprivileged warm during cold Penrith nights.  

The inspiration came when the couple began cooking and delivering meals for fire fighters and volunteers during the Blue Mountains bush fires in 2013.

Later that year they were asked to cook a Christmas Eve dinner for the homeless and underprivileged from a carpark in Penrith. 

The Mama Lana’s Community Foundation was then established to help the often forgotten community advance their wellbeing and prospects for the future. 

“We want to spread the word about Mama Lana’s and hope that other people will want to do something like this in their own area, one person can make a difference,” said Ms Borg. 

Narromine Shire Mayor Craig Davies said, "our community has a lot to offer and we look forward to welcoming the duo, along with their two children to Trangie”.

The community is invited to join Australia Day Celebrations in Trangie on Friday, January 26, at the Trangie Bowling Club from 8am.
