While the Trangie Rugby Union Club was the successful funding applicant, Narromine Shire Council, as the land owner, was obligated to take on the role of project manager.
But the tendering process has now confirmed that the funds available do not match the proposed upgrades as outlined in the original scope of works.
“The council is working vigorously to improve the current state of Alan Burns Oval after ground maintenance was put on hold to allow for the upgrade,” Narromine Shire mayor Craig Davies said.
“Council were required to ensure there was no sub-surface moisture on the oval in preparation for the work.
“Following the tendering process it has been confirmed that the funds granted through the application are not sufficient to complete the proposed work which has inevitably postponed the upgrades.
“Some of the work will now have to be staged.”
Trangie Rugby Union Club are working to change the scope with council.
Trangie Rugby Union Club’s Kevin Flinn said “upgrades to the oval are on hold until after the winter sports season but we are looking forward to a successful season ahead”.
Council are in the process of exploring further funding options along with negotiating changes to the work to be undertaken.
