Melinda Gleeson, Trangie, Local Woman of the Year

Member for Dubbo, Troy Grant announced the award on Monday.

​Mr Grant said “Mrs Gleeson’s commitment to bringing positive change to the region through her contribution to the Trangie community and regional sport made her an outstanding candidate.”

Mrs Gleeson is a much involved member of Trangie and western region and volunteers her time with a number of community groups, from sport to school.

Mrs Gleeson said that she was “shocked” to receive the award.

“One that I was nominated, and two that I’ve received the award," she said.

“I was taken by surprise, there’s a lot of good people that do good things in the area … and a lot of people out there that deserved the award.”

“You don’t contribute to the community to receive any accolade or award.”

“I have wonderful and hard working people around me that help support the community,” Mrs Gleeson said.

Minister for Women Tanya Davies said the NSW Women of the Year Local Awards celebrate the contributions and successes of women who are often quiet achievers.

“The Local Awards are designed to acknowledge women who are making a significant impact in the places where we live and work, and in the lives of people around them.”

“Local award winners exemplify the spirit of their communities,” Mrs Davies said.

Statewide award winners, that are voted by the public, were announced at the awards ceremony.

The NSW Women of the Year Awards program recognises remarkable women across the state who have achieved inspiring things in their careers, in business or in their communities.
