It was noted at the meeting that the trees are causing a number of issues for local residents including:
- Lifting of the bitumen by the tree roots which causes public liability insurance issues with people tripping when crossing that part of the street or getting in and out of cars.
- Interfering with the kerb and gutter along the street.
- Potential problems with some water pipes in the area.
- Falling of seed pods and leaves which are continuously cleaned up by Council staff.
Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager Jane Redden said, “the trees along Dandaloo street have been causing a problem for many years and the problem is getting worse over time.”
“With the proposed extension of the main street enhancement project it is important to ensure Council replace the existing trees with a more suitable and attractive street tree that will greatly enhance the look of the main street and help to tie together both sides of the main street.”
The tree replacement work will commence in the coming months in conjunction with other works planned for Dandaloo Street.
