Titled Biodiversity for Profit, the conference will include presentations from industry professionals, supported by scientific research.
Chair of Central West Local Land Services, Susan Madden said the day would also showcase the work of central west farmers, who will demonstrate how they are boosting farm profitability, through:
- Improving soil structure, fertility and production capacity
- Farm resilience against climatic changes and weather events
- Opportunities to profit from conservation agreements.
“This event is an excellent opportunity to understand how successfully managing biodiversity and natural resources on your farm can help address growing threats such as climate change and even bring about a competitive market advantage,” Ms Madden said.
MC for the day will be agricultural scientist, Chris Russell, who is well known as a former judge on the popular ABC television series The New Inventors and has spent the past 30 years working in various technical and commercial roles in more than 30 countries.
“Many people in the central west have been through difficult conditions before, but we have a unique opportunity now to take advantage of the incredible level of innovation in the agricultural sector,” Mr Russell said.
“If landholders think smart, they may be able to adapt some new ideas to old issues and be in a position to boost production and create a more resilient enterprise, despite the current lack of rain across the region.”
Ms Madden said staff from Central West Local Land Services’ agriculture, sustainable land management and natural resource management teams would be available to start conversations about how to manage biodiversity to suit your budget and enterprise.
“This conference is an excellent opportunity to understand the value of biodiversity on your farm, meet other landholders and plan for the future.”
The conference will be held at Dubbo’s Lazy River Estate from 9am on Tuesday, June 19.
