Supt McKenna said since the formation of the Orana Mid Western Police District in December, they had taken a firm approach on criminals. Between January and May the police had arrested and charged more offenders than other other police district in NSW, he said.
Supt McKenna said he had heard concerns from residents about phone calls to Narromine Police Station being redirected to Dubbo. However, he said the method was working.

“I don't want my police sitting in police stations answering phones, I want them out on the streets responding to crime, being seen by the community, disrupting and preventing offenders and criminals from committing crime,” he said.
Narromine has a new Sergeant and Officer in Charge Michael Smith, who is already proving to have a proactive approach to crime reduction, the Superintendent said.
“I would like to re-enforce to the Narromine community that I very much care about you, your community, your crime rates and your perception of crime. I cannot emphasise enough however, that we need your assistance in reporting crime, letting us know about suspicious persons or activity so that we can do something about it,” he said.
“I want to encourage any members of the community that have concerns about crime or policing issues, to firstly take them to their Officer in Charge Sergeant Smith, so that he can assist and have them dealt with at the local level.”
Supt McKenna said if more resources were needed he would ensure they were allocated. If anyone needed to speak to him they could call 6883 1611, he said.
