The battle was on again for the NTP with" Pom" looking a likely winner until " Boof " came along and collected the prize of only one golf ball as the kitty has been regularly emptied of late.Gus Smith won the NAGA prize again with a 15 pointer.
There was a potential new member in the field in Tony Harding on a handicap of two. It is rumoured "Boy George" is 57 years young and qualifies as a geriatric. Welcome Tony- you will now be known as " Boy Gerry ". Interest turned to the pool table where Alan Kearines and his son Greg played Gus Smith and Bob Fletcher. The Kearines won in a black ball game to advance to the final.
The second preliminary was between Chris Harding and Mal McIntyre and Tony Harding and Terry Willis. This match went to Harding and Willis for them to advance to the final. According to reports the final was a mixture of good and bad shots until the father and son combination Alan and Greg emerged victorious after Alan sank the black in the middle pocket with a magnificent shot to become the weekly Champs. It also meant Alan Completed the double for the day-congratulations Alan.

Men’s Bowls
Another Highly Successful “GUB” Thorne Day highlighted the week of Bowls activities up at the Narromine Bowling Club. Some 54 players took to the greens bright eyed and Bushy Tailed Saturday morning, courtesy of a sumptuous Breakfast, but by day’s end, around about 6.00pm there were a few tired soldiers crashed in the Club lounge.
By Mutual agreement the only two undefeated teams decided to split the prizemoney, with a coin flip used to determine who got the Trophy. So for the record the runners up were Barry Gibbs, Derek Gibbs and Ken Baker representing the Goodooga Club, whilst the Day’s winners were our local lads Glen Huchison, Trent Jacobson and Robbie Stanford.
A big thank you to our sponsors on the Day, namely Glen Wallace Plumbing, Jeff Johnson Stock and General carriers and Free Choice Tobacconist in Orana Mall Dubbo.
Once again Mark Smith and Joe Flick ran a pretty smooth day and our thanks to these two gentlemen for their support. The day was rounded off nicely with a couple of auctions of sporting memorabilia items, and then Live Music by the Simpson Brothers, ensured those still standing, were polished off nicely.
Social Bowls this week saw a good field of 20 players go round on Thursday, but Mother Nature’s Cold Snap on Sunday was a good enough deterrent to put the shutters up on any possible play in the chook run.
The full wrap of Thursdays play saw Neville Townsend, Bob Ashdown and Terry McDonald “WHACK” Richard Hyde, Rick Bohm and Peter Cross 27/16 out on rink 2, with “Ashy” in particular causing a fair amount of havoc. On rink 3 Des Lincoln and Danny Carnevale jumped out to a handy lead 20/05 after ten ends and were never in too much trouble in their 26/14 win over Bob and Kevin.
On rink 4 it was the duo of Greg Wright and Dale McCafferty who proved a tad too good for Noel and Geoff, winning 29/15 and earning a massive 17 points along the way, whilst in the final clash on rink 5 Mick Woodward, David McNair and Eddie McPhee just nudged out Peter Kelly, Clifton Harris and Don Sullivan 23/20.
Great to see the “Silent Assassin” back on the Green after a few months off due to a slight medical “hiccup”. At days end atop the podium were the Duo of Greg and Dale, with the runners up cheque going to Des and Danny.
The jackpot continues to be uncooperative and will be in excess of $400.00 next Thursday, and given Nicer weather, we should get a good field, here’s hoping. The Draw for the B grade Pairs was conducted on Sunday morning and the old computer came up with the following list of matches for this Saturday.
Game 01: Bob Davis and Geoff Bohm will tackle Clifton Harris and James Coen. Game 2 features Tom Newlands and Paul Hilder up against John Woolfe and Geoff Cape. Game 03 sees “Rabz” MacQueen and Sam Crook Clash with Jimmy Daley and Legs Hartas, whilst the last match will pit Dale McCafferty and Adam Jermyn up against Kerry Martin and Ross Edden.
So four absorbing battles, and picking the likely outcomes, well that will need a pretty flash crystal ball. The Nomination sheet for the A grade Triples has been posted on the old Notice Board and intending Players and teams have about three weeks to get their names down to avoid missing out on our last championship event of the year. Given the influx of new bowlers and local “Footy” season is finished, there is no reason why this event shouldn’t attract a reasonably large field.
