The only thing more Australian than tucking into a chicken ‘parma’ at the local pub, is lending a hand to those who need it most, and right now it is communities ravaged by drought.

The chicken ‘parma’ is a classic pub favourite which has charmed Aussie taste buds for years, and now it’s on the menu at hundreds of pubs and clubs who are donating $1 from every parmigiana sold to help drought-stricken communities.
Owners of Raj’s Restaurant in Narromine Stacey and Raj Swamy said living in a rural community heavily affected by drought, they wanted to help out any way they could.
The couple, in conjunction with Kobe’s Boutique and Narromine Fruit and Vegetables have already hosted a bake sale, raising $989 for drought affected farmers.
Raj’s Restaurant have now decided to take part in the Parma for a Farmer initiative, but are going one step further by donating all proceeds for every parma sold at their restaurant on Sunday August 19.
“This Sunday we’re doing Parma for a Farmer day so 100 per cent of parmas from the day will go to Aussie Helpers, a charity which will help deliver stock feed, food for farming families, farming equipment, financial support, and emotional support, they also have a psychologist available 24/7 for farmers to ring up,” Mrs Swamy said.
“We’ve got a good start [with our bake stall] and we’re hoping to get to $2000,” she said.
According to the Combined Drought Indicator which records the drought in NSW, Narromine is in ‘intense drought’.
Mrs Swamy said living in an agricultural town, farmers are an integral part of the community and it is important to support them during this time.
“Our restaurant wouldn’t function without farmers, our produce comes from farmers, a lot of our customers are farmers, a lot of our family and friends are farmers so I think we owe it to them to help them out, because they need our help,” Mrs Swamy said.
This Sunday, August 19 head over to Raj’s Restaurant, located at the Narromine USMC and grab a Parma for your local Farmer.
Casey Siegel from Kobe’s Boutique will also have a stall on Sunday with stickers and mugs for sale. All proceeds will go toward the initiative as well.
Mrs Swamy thanked Paradise Fresh for donating a fruit and vegetable hamper that was sold at their bake stall, and for donating vegetables for Sunday. She also gave a big thank you to Brenno’s Hot Bake for donating a voucher for Sunday as well.
