Despite being totally blind, Sue-Ellen is looking forward to the challenge of riding from Dubbo on October 6 to Geurie, Wellington, Goolma, Mudgee, Gulgong, Dunedoo, Coolah, Binnaway, Mendooran, Gilgandra, Collie, Warren, Trangie, Narromine and returning to Dubbo on October 21.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Not only was Sue-Ellen diagnosed with a hereditary eye disease at age 12 which has over time left her totally blind, she is also a cancer survivor and feels passionate about helping other patients in her community.
“I understand the difficulty of leaving home and family to travel long distances for cancer treatment,” she said.
“The new cancer centre in Dubbo will bring life-saving treatment much closer to home, which will have a really positive impact on patients and their families.”
A dreadful drought has not dissuaded Ms Lovett from supporting the establishment of a Wellness Space at the centre, which will provide support, education and wellbeing services to patients and families during treatment.
“Cancer doesn’t stop because there’s a drought or a flood,” she said. Ms Lovett said the wellness space would “make a difference” to patients through massage, meditation, yoga and beautician services.
“There is going to be nothing like this cancer centre this side of the mountains,” she said.
