A team of Trangie firefighters competed in the 2018 NSW Firefighter Championships in Dubbo which pits teams from across the state against one another on October 25 to 27.

The biannual championships feature 15 events simulating real-world scenarios, from climbing ladders to staged rescues. The Trangie team, John Terry, Mark and Wade Haines was led by captain Tony Terry.
At the end of the first day, the team were placed sixth with 274 points behind Wyong, Bega, Kelso, Kootingal and Nowra Firefighters. Despite reaching 686 points on the final day Trangie placed sixth overall.
Former Trangie firefighter Brett Smyth broke the legendary seven second barrier in the ladder climb, even with a dislocated finger.
The Wyong fire brigade team won the championship held at Ollie Robbins Oval.
