The Regional Drought Communities Small Grants Program will fund the likes of community events, community gardens and school camps.
The federal government has pumped $15 million into the program with the non-government organisation, Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, set to distribute the grants.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is encouraging eligible and not-for-profit community organisations in his electorate to apply for the grants.
“Grants of up to $20,000 are available, however a limited number of grants of up to $60,000 and $150,000 are also on offer,” he said.
“Examples of suitable projects could include hosting community events, creating community gardens, art and drama projects, school camps, tools and equipment or training and support.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the funding delivered on the government's commitment to provide immediate support to regional communities currently enduring prolonged drought.
“For many months now, the government has been on the ground listening to how best to assist communities, tough and resilient as they are, to pull through these difficult times,” he said.
The foundation will roadshow the Regional Drought Communities Small Grants Program through grant- seeker workshops, regional meetings and discussions with community groups.
