Ms Milgate said the Trangie LALC believe it’s important for senior members of the Trangie community participate in low key sporting activities that promote active lifestyles, inclusiveness, health and wellbeing.
“This event which has been held over the last 2 years has been very popular with the Trangie and surrounding town seniors.
“The activities held allow participants of all abilities to be able to participate in the program throughout the day.”
Ms Milgate said Trangie Central School and the Trangie Multi Purpose Health Service are a tremendous support of the event.
“The Trangie Central School are an enormous help on the day with the senior children developing the games and activities, assisting the seniors with the activities, keeping track of scoring and helping with the morning teas and lunches,” Ms Milgate said.
“The Trangie Multi Purpose Health Service allow us to use the gardens areas to hold the activities and the staff are invaluable in their assistance to bring this event together and being available to help the residents to actively participate on the day,” she said.
Popularity of the event is continuing to grow, with attendance numbers growing from 50 to 80 in the past two years, and Ms Milgate expects next year to be even bigger reaching almost 100 guests.
Toni Ford, Director of Media and Events for the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival Grants Toni Ford said that Trangie’s ‘Seniors getting active’ is a great opportunity to celebrate seniors living in our community.
“I personally thank older people for the contribution they make, and I commend you for your fantastic initiative.”
