James Sheahan Catholic High School hosts HSC Major Works Exhibition

The Textiles and Design student’s 1970s inspired jumpsuit was created around the theme ‘rebellion’ using chenille detailing, a fabric with a caterpillar like appearance she said was big during that period.

“I knew I wanted to use material which is a little uncommon and not often used in clothes now,” she said.

Teacher Jane Edwards said the style the senior chose had a high degree of difficulty, as it required the modification of two patterns and the creation of the chenille style.

“The chenille is made from four layers of fabric with lines stitched diagonally about a centimeter apart and then cut between each line. It is then washed to give a ripple effect,” she said.

Sophie’s jumpsuit will be modelled alongside the other six textile students work, during a fashion parade in the school’s auditorium.

The HSC Major Works Exhibition will also feature the work of English students, Visual Arts students, Industrial Technology students and Automotive students whose work includes a restored HQ one tonner ute.

The year 11 hospitality class will put together canapés and See Saw Wine will provide the over 18s with a local vintage from 5pm.
