Last Saturday a very good field of 23 players turned up for the weekly Gerries golf competition played at Royal Narromine, in very pleasant weather conditions. In the Ladies event there were 11 players and once again Marj Kelly collected the goodies with a fine round of 22 points.
Marj had a battle for victory as Marie Houghton also returned 22 points only to lose on a count-back. Both ladies played well on the day. There was no winner in the Ladies NTP and this is now worth winning next week.
In the men's event there were 12 starters and the winner was Terry Willis with 25 points. One wonders what happened here as Willis will loose shots with the Christmas hams coming up next week.
John Butcher was second with 23 points.Tiger Berryman picked up the NTP and once again only one golf ball in the kitty. The coveted combined NAGA prize went to Peter Gainsford with 17 points.
Attention turned to the Pool table where the preliminary match went to Peter Gainsford and Chris Harding who defeated Gus Smith and Bob Fletcher to advance to the final.
The final was a thriller between Ross King and Terry Willis against Pom and Pete. It appears as though Pom and Pete would win easily halfway through the match only to see HRH sink the final two balls and the black leaving their opponents with three balls left on the able.
Next week will be the big Christmas day with hams for prizes and nibbles to gobble after the Match. The Ladies are on the back nine the the blokes on the front with the hit off at 9am.See you all on the tee.

Men’s Bowls
December sees a veritable Feast of Activity on and off the Greens up at the Bowly. We something happening every week leading up to the festive season and beyond for all members, so here’s what’s happening:
This Thursday 13th December we will be putting aside our normal raffle, but don’t despair, in its place will be Some 30 HAMS up for grabs. Tickets will be on sale from around 06.30pm, with the Draw to commence shortly after 07.00pm.
The following Thursday 20th December the “MONSTAR” Raffle takes pride of place. With over $2000.00 in Cash and Kind to be won, this always popular event should have the house rocking, and if that doesn’t well the NEW YEARS EVE Karaoke with “Maurice” is certainly a night out not to be missed.
Yes folks it is all happening this December and the “Bowly” is the place to Be!!! Well on the Bowls side of things we had a couple of outings including our Presentation Day following bowls & lunch last Sunday. Some 30 players had a run in the normal chook run before the formalities commenced and it was good to see most of our 2018 Champions in action.
Eddie McPhee and team mates Barb Lincoln and Kevin Tuohy were down 03/13 against Colleen Heatrick, Bob Ashdown and Terry McDonald before “the Juice” kicked in and boy did it have the desired effect, for not only did they win the game 18/15, but the barnstorming finish was enough to Garner the Day’s Best Performed Team award.
I had the pleasure of watching most of the bowls on Sunday Morning and it augurs well for the future when you see a ten year old lining up next to an octogenarian, and both parties were enjoying the day for what it was.
Thursday Social Bowls saw 18 lads take to the paddock, with the trio of Richard Hyde, Dale McCafferty and David McNair declared the day’s best performed team after they Demolished Clifton, Bob and Trent.
The runners up cheque went to Kevin Heatrick, Jeff Schloeffel and Don Sullivan for their solid 22/13 win over Des, Danny and Aaron.
The Jackpot prize pool had the week off, not showing its head on either Thursday nor Sunday and thus next week both will be worth just a few more “Shekels”.
With 2019 just around the corner the Nominations sheet for Pennant players has gone up on the notice board. If you intend to play pennants for Narromine Bowling Club in 2019 you need to make that decision pretty quickly as the selectors will be meeting very early in the New Year with a view of selecting teams for trial matches.
Well that’s it for me for another week; hope to catch up with you up at the “Bowly”.

Racing
Nictock has been announced as the “Horse Of The Year” for the 2017/2018 season at tracks covered by the Central Districts Racing Association ( CDRA ). The announcement and trophy presentation took place before a massive crowd at the Mudgee Cup meeting on Friday.
Trained at Mudgee by Cameron Crockett and owned by Ken Hardy, Ian Hardy and Denise Hardy from Sydney, Nictock, a five year old chestnut gelding by Nicconi from Ready To Rumba, has the impressive record of seven wins and four placings from 16 starts.
In a spectacular start to the career Nictock won seven races from the first eight starts, the only defeat being when third at Royal Randwick.
Over the 2017/2018 season, Nictock had wins on metropolitan tracks at Canterbury and Warwick Farm and finished second in a big field at a Saturday meeting at Rosehill.
Along with Nictock, finalists considered for the CDRA “Horse Of The Year” were the 2016/2017 winner Lake Lugarno trained at Forbes by Barry Molloy, Sharpe Hussler ( Cameron Crockett, Mudgee ), Schedule ( Mack Griffith, Mudgee ) and Our Dasha ( Derek Piper ( Mudgee ).
Greg Ryan from Dubbo has again won the CDRA Jockeys Premiership, Warwick Farm based Bjorn Baker is the CDRA Trainers Premiership winner for the second year in succession while Chris Williams formerly from Dubbo won the Apprentice Jockeys Premiership. It was an emotional day for trainer Cameron Crockett as apart from accepting the
CDRA “Horse Of The Year” trophy for Nictock he earlier won a race with The Warlord and later watched as the jockeys wore black armbands in the Mudgee Cup to honour his father the legendary horse breaker and trainer Max Crockett who recently passed away at Mudgee.
In the final event at Mudgee, the 1200 metres Wild Oats Cup Day Showcase Sprint, Nictock ( Chad Lever,$3.80 ) humped the 62.5kg top weight when a gallant second to the Derek Piper, Mudgee trained Our Dasha ( Greg Ryan,$4.60 ) with Choice Larga ( Travis Wolfgram, $11 ) third, in a three way photo finish.
The Joe Pride, Warwick Farm trained Tahsin has now won the $50,000 Robert Oatley Vineyards Mudgee Cup ( 1600 metres ) twice in succession, ridden last year by Jeff Penza and in 2018 by Irish born apprentice Robbie Dolan.
After enjoying a nice run midfield on the rails, Tahsin ( $11 ) down the centre of the track finished best to account for the leader Appoint Percy ( Courtney Gravener, $5 ) and Missybeel ( Jean Van Overmeire, $9 )
First leg of a winning treble at Mudgee for Cowra jockey Mathew Cahill was Mornay, a debut maker in the 1100 metres Robert Oatley three years old Maiden Showcase Plate. Mornay is trained at Gosford by Luke Hilton the grandson of legendary Cowra trainer the late Viv Miller while Luke’s father is Bob Hilton from Cowra, a well known sports commentator and himself a former outstanding sportsman.
