Ms Monaghan was chosen as the Narromine 2019 Young Citizen of the Year.
As well as being the MC for the last three debutante balls, Ms Monaghan assists as part of the committee and teaches the dances.
She has been the MC at the Narromine Netball Club fairy ball and is an active member of the club, taking part in the umpiring, coaching, playing and fundraising.
Written in her citation is that Ms Monaghan “has helped with anything anyone asks of her”.
The Young Citizen was overwhelmed to hear her name called out at the Australia Day ceremony.
“I was very shocked about it all, I thought ‘oh wow, that’s me’,” she said.
Getting involved with the debutante ball was something she enjoyed, Ms Monaghan said.
“I’ve always helped mum out with the deb balls, we’ve done a couple of deb balls together, then I helped out with the fairy ball. From there it’s just expanded,” she said.
“I started as Vice-Captain at Narromine High School in 2017 and then I’ve gone from there and kept doing public speaking.”
Ms Monaghan said she’d love to see more people put their hand up to help out.
“I would love to teach other young people how to get involved and how to do it,” she said.
